Scott & Fyfe, a leading designer and producer of technical textiles, has completed the installation of a second coating line at the company’s Tayport Works site, in order to expand coating capability and capacity at the facility.

The company’s new extrusion coating line can coat in a single coating pass at a greater speed; up to 120 metres/min, and at lower weights; to a minimum of 12 gsm, enhancing existing coating and laminating capabilities, the company reports.

With this investment, the company can now also extend its capabilities in terms of the desired characteristics such as UV resistance, FR, anti-microbial, slip resistance that can be added to coatings to suit specific customer needs. Coatings can be applied to a range of base materials, including woven, nonwoven and tubular fabrics, paper and composites.

“Investment has been made to meet higher customer demands and to continue growth enjoyed in markets as diverse as flooring, loop fabric, geotextiles, and nonwovens. The enhanced features of the new coating line will allow access to lower weight coating applications and deliver an efficient manufacturing process,” commented Roland Pap, Business Director, Scott & Fyfe.

“The increased capacity also provides customers with a coating services solution, that negates the need to make substantial investment in establishing their own coating equipment.”

Scott & Fyfe has been designing and producing a vast range of technical textiles for numerous market areas worldwide for 150 years.

Based in Scotland, the company covers a variety of markets, offering product ranges that include stitch bonding and warp knitted fabrics, loop fabric for the technical and abrasive manufacturing industry, advanced glass fibre reinforcement materials for the FRP industry, woven fabrics for agricultural applications, and knitted fabrics and 3D spacer fabrics for the automotive industry.

The company has over 30 years of experience supplying coated and laminated products with an annual capacity of 150 million square metres.
