As the value of our health and happiness became more evident in recent years, there’s been a subsequent emphasis on wellness within the world of design. With the home playing a more prominent role in our lives, that trend has manifested in everything from paint colors to floor plans. Now, an innovation in the textile space aims to embed wellness into the very fabric of our furniture.

The Wellness Textures fabrics collection, developed by Crypton Home and available now at Kravet showrooms, marks the first woven residential fabric to incorporate patented Celliant technology developed by Hologenix. Each fiber is permanently infused with an ultra-fine powder composed of thermo-reactive minerals, with the final product woven at Crypton’s very own mill in Cliffside, North Carolina. This is the result of Crypton and Hologenix’s three-year collaboration.

The Celliant technology has been clinically proven to help with faster recovery times, improved sleep, and increased energy.

As demonstrated by the findings of 11 clinical trials—also discussed in eight published and peer-reviewed studies—Celliant works by reflecting a user’s natural body heat back to them as infrared energy, which can improve cellular oxygenation and local circulation. That can translate to wellness benefits ranging from faster recovery times to improved sleep and increased energy. In addition to turning the act of sitting or lying down into a greater ritual of self-care, Crypton managed to integrate Celliant technology without sacrificing any of the spill repellence, stain and odor resistance, or general durability that Crypton’s home fabrics are already known for.

Part of the potential appeal for this Celliant fabric is its varied application, posing the opportunity for any upholstered piece of furniture to now confer potential health benefits. From a desk chair in the home office to a kitchen banquette to the living room sofa, daily activities ranging from answering emails to falling asleep in front of the TV can now incorporate an added element of wellness.

Each fiber of the Celliant fabric is infused with an ultra-fine powder composed of thermo-reactive minerals, meaning the technology won't be worn or washed away over time.

“It’s astonishing that something as seemingly innocuous as upholstery fabric can actively, positively impact wellness,” Crypton CEO Lance Keziah tells AD PRO. “We think people who care about health and wellbeing but don’t have a ton of time to spend on self-care will embrace Kravet Crypton Celliant as a way to have it all.”

And when it came to turn Crypton’s Celliant fabric into something that would look and feel appealing to designers and their clients, tapping into the company’s eight-year home fabrics partnership with Kravet was an obvious choice, the executive says. “We knew that we could work with Kravet to create styles, textures, and colors that would appeal to the luxury residential market,” Keziah says. “Like us, they like to be first to market with thoughtful products that offer designers and their clients a beautiful aesthetic and real-world performance.”

The line comes in an array of neutrals, as well as an assortment of blue and green colorways.

Just as the versatility of this new fabric allows for the unobtrusive incorporation of wellness into our everyday lives, one look at Kravet and Crypton’s collection of Wellness Textures makes it clear that function need not come at the expense of form. From the soft chenille of Serenity Now to the tweedy Healing Touch, the four patterns are available in a variety of neutrals—plus a few nods to those soothing and muted greens that dominated the most recent color of the year trend cycle.

“Oftentimes I feel there is a misconception that if a product has additional performance qualities and traits, you have to sacrifice style or beauty,” observes Daniel Kravet, who serves as vice president of sales at the family-owned fabric distributor. “With this Celliant collection, it’s just as visually appealing as everything else we offer at Kravet, and feels just as good as it looks.”
